How to choose a college and not sell your pants

In today's complex times full of fraudulent enterprises, it is necessary to be very cautious when choosing a professional study (higher education with an MBA, Ph.D., etc. not covered by Act No. 111/1998 Coll.). In order to make the study as beneficial and suitable as possible to meet personal and professional goals, it is very important to consider several factors that distinguish the school. It is important to focus on the reputation and prestige of the school, the quality of teaching and research, the difficulty and duration of the studies and, last but not least, the opportunities to engage in practical projects. It is also a good idea to consider whether it is better to study at a local or international school and which form of study is the most time-efficient. Nowadays, it is even possible to study a professional qualification online, which is the most time-saving option compared to full-time or distance learning.

Any quality higher education study must be in line with the "Bologna Process".

The Bologna Process is a process that aims to create a common European area of higher education. This process includes a number of measures to ensure the unification and harmonisation of higher education in the European Union and to contribute to the creation of higher quality higher education.

A higher education programme that is in line with the Bologna Process should meet several basic criteria. These criteria include:

  • Unification of degree programmes: the Bologna Process requires universities to use common nomenclature for degree programmes, such as "bachelor's degree" or "master's degree", and to define the content of these programmes according to common standards.

  • Curricula: The Bologna Process requires universities to develop curricula that provide a clear overview of the knowledge, skills and benefits to be acquired.

  • Credit system: The Bologna Process introduces a common credit system to help compare study programmes and to allow students to study at any foreign university within the European Union, even within the same subject.

  • High quality: the Bologna Process requires universities to ensure high standards in their curricula and to focus on improving the quality of education.

There are several ways to determine the quality of a professional degree (e.g.: MBA):

Accreditation. Internationally recognized accrediting bodies for MBA studies are, for example, the International Council for Higher Education Accreditation (ENQA), the International Association for Universities (IAU), or the Accreditation, Certification and Membership Association of Educational Institutions and Schools (ACMAEOS).

Quality of teachers: a quality MBA study must have quality and experienced teachers who are professionals in their field and have many years of experience.

Experience: MBA studies should include practical experiences such as simulations, projects or work placements to help students learn how to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting.

Networking: MBA studies should allow students to network and build a network of contacts that can help them in the future.

Graduate success: a good MBA degree should have a high success rate of getting jobs for its graduates.

Verified schools recommended by the editors:

There are several educational institutions in the Czech Republic that offer professional studies. Some of the best known include:

  • University of Economics in Prague

  • Charles University in Prague

  • Tomas Bata University in Zlín

  • European Academy of Education in Prague

These schools usually offer MBA programmes in Czech or English and can last from one to two years. Programmes can be studied as full-time, evening or online studies and focus on attractive areas such as business, finance, marketing or international business. It is very beneficial to do a little research into the cost, difficulty and benefits of each programme for your specialisation. It also pays to consider studying an MBA at an international school, which can provide you with wider employment opportunities and valuable international experience.

Professional degree programs are generally focused on developing management skills and knowledge and are beneficial for professionals who want to improve team leadership or company management, increase their competitiveness in the job market, or gain a higher position in their field. In addition, MBA studies broaden qualifications with international experience, knowledge of global business and provide personal and professional growth.
